In 1930, the Sandy Hollow Golf Course opened its doors, located on the south side of town. Sandy Hollow Golf Course is a beautiful and challenging course, and it has become one of the most popular of the five Park District courses. Golf Digest rated this course with three stars, highlighting its excellent playing conditions and design. The course features a par of 71 and an 18-hole, tree-lined fairway course spanning 6,228 yards. Sandy Hollow is certified by the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary System, and it placed first in the Public Space category of the 2002 City of Gardens Rockford in Bloom Awards.
One of the most memorable holes at Sandy Hollow is the par-4 14th, which challenges golfers with a dogleg left and a well-protected green guarded by bunkers and trees. This hole demands accuracy off the tee and careful club selection to score well.
