Sydney Marovitz is a very challenging course because of the fairways are narrow and the yard on the Par 4 are really long. Plus point for the gorgeous views of the lake. |

Sydney R. Marovitz is one of the most challenging of the Chicago Park District courses with its tight greens, numerous bunkers and championship length. Greens and sand are never good. You get what you pay for. Although still somewhat challenging. Good if you live in city and only have time for 9 casue you can_t take all day. But, this course plays very slow. 2.5+ hours for 9. |

a total goat ranch. 3:45 minute 9 which is expected but the fairways and even sand traps are like hitting off cement. |

I just played the course and it was pretty good. Seems that if you go later during the day their is less people. However, the girl at the pro shop could have put a smile on her face. |

you have to pay for parking which is ripping off.only for people who live in area and do not have a car.this course will work only for people who are new to chicago until they other courses in chicago, cook county.otherwise i would look at others not this course. |

This course has amazing views of the lake and some view of downtown. Nice open fairways and fairly challenging layout. I would give it a 4 but the greens were in pretty bad shape and the play was really slow. Still a fun course though |

I played with a guy who brought his dog along, his dog crapped just off the fairway twice, and I never saw him make a trip to the garbage can to throw it out, after hole seven he made a u-turn and jumped back on hole four to start all over again. |

True hacker_s course. Easy enough layout, but the greens are like putting on astroturf that is riddled with cigarette burns. Good place to work on iron shots and enjoying the view, but skip the putting. |

Straight flat course. Nice scenery on the lake front. Killer gnats if you partake in twilight golf. Fairways were kind of dry so balls bounced a lot. Good for a quick after work game. |

Seriously...for all those of you who have nothing to do but bitch about the slower golfers, please remember: It is a 19 dollar public course! |

The inability to cancel less than 24 hours is ridiculous. |

Course is a very pleasant city course near the lake. The fairways and greens area bit tattered as you would expect from a $19 course. It took us 3 hours on a Saturday morning to finsh the 9 holes which was a little slow - but this saves you the 40 minutes driving to the burbs to play! Overall, a nice & cheap course. |

If you have 5 hours to play 9 then this is the track for you. It's the slowest course I have ever played. Very frustrating (but also very cheap). |

Its a very fun course and can't beat the price of $8 for nine holes after 4 p.m on Saturday and Sunday. Its a little diffcult to get hold of a pull cart, if you need one. Definitely recommended. |

This course sucks. The tee boxes are cut as long as my front lawn, the tee actually disappears. The bunkers aren't even sand, they're dirt. As for pace, I really do not mind slow play, but it took 3.5 hrs to finish 9 holes on a friday, which added to the suckiness as well. P.S. There's some old guy on 6 or 7 that sells cans of beer for a buck over the fence, which was good but I could've used one at 2. |

This course is very challenging, the layout plays like a championship 18 hole course. Water comes into play on on hole. With tree lined fairways and the lake on the back side, this course is well worth it!. |

This course is well worth the money. Long holes, beautifull lake front scenery and most important - wide open for the "wild swingers" like myself. |

This really is a nice course and very long. You contend with a lot of road noise for the last three holes and play is painfully slow. If you have the time it's worth it. |

SLOW!SLOW!SLOW! This course is so slow it will drive you crazy. I got on at 5:30pm, and finished at 8:40pm. It is long with elevated sloping greens, and a lot of deep sand. If you finish under 50 and in less than 3 hours, you had a great day. It is so slow because every golfer in the city plays there, and shoots in the 80's. Its a joke. Don't go unless you love to wait!! |
Golfer: Adam Ballog Date: 2002-02-06 Rating: ![]() |
The most challenging public course in chicago, deep rough and trees, line the fairway. If your tee shot consists of a hard slice you might find yourself in the lake for two holes. The course is well worth the wait. |

SLOW! SLOW! SLOW! SLOW! SLOW! SLOW! You will not believe the clowns that frequent this place. Every beginner in the entire city is hacking around this track! The course itself isn't bad, the design is simple trees line two or three fairways, on most other holes trees are only moderately challenging. They keep the greens extremely slow, to eliminate 3 & 4 putts and keep the course moving. Thank god there is only 1 hole with water, otherwise it would take 6 hours to finish a round here. |
Golfer: Anonymous Duffer Date: 2002-02-06 Rating: ![]() |
course is in good shape for how much it's used. nice and long. very slow play. |

Is the only way to contact this place via the EZ Tee Time telephone service. I've made reservations and can't get verification. What does an earnest golfer have to do? |
Golfer: Goldenass Date: 2003-08-08 Rating: ![]() |
I believe this course is one of the best public golf courses in Chicago. One last comment for the professional golfers, if this course is to slow for your guys, go and pay somewhere else. The Beginner |
Sidney Marovitz - Waveland GC Addtional Information & History
By the mid '30s, Waveland was the most active of the city's municipal courses. The Park District even constructed horseshoe pits and Ping-Pong tables near the first tee for waiting golfers. In those days, Waveland's greens fees were a quarter; by 1991, the cost is $6 weekdays and $7 on weeekends. Although the Ping-Pong tables, horseshoe pits and most of the original sand traps are long gone, Waveland is still Chicago's busiest and most beautiful public golf course.
