Crystal Woods Golf Course Review
Crystal Woods Golf Course is a nice course that has matured. Many of the holes have large trees near the fairway or father out towards into the rough. The trees include very large oaks and maples and many others that are full and well manicured. I hardly found any leaves or seeds in my way throughout the entire course….and believe me, I was in the rough being my first outing this year
Hazards
Only a handful of the holes have water hazards, but the holes that do have them strategically placed so you’ll have to make a big decision on whether to lay up or go for it. For example, on hole # 8, you have a par five that will demand around at least a 190 yard carry over the water to enjoy being on in 2. The sand traps are numerous and very well maintained. After all the rain the course has seen none of the traps had standing water or that organic mud layer you get from leaves, grass and dirt piling on top of the sand. The rough is challenging yet fair in that it is long and full. Sometimes a course will have rough that is long and sparse, and this can give very inconsistent results because on one shot youâ??re buried and the other youâ??re sitting on hardpan dirt.
Scenery
Rolling hills with views of a farm with cows lounging make this course feel like youâ??re in the country enjoying a nice day. A rustic barn, silo and other comforts of the country make this course an awesome getaway from the familiar sights of an urban landscape.
Notable Holes
Each hole has its own great style to it, and #9 is without exception. On paper it seems like a chance to birdie, but in person it poses a dilemma. The yardage is just over 300, but the dogleg right forces you to contemplate playing a big fading driver or lay-up before the water, which is about 260 out and the slightly elevated tee makes this hazard very reachable. The green is cleverly sloped towards the back, so be very careful not to overcompensate for the water in front of you and roll off the back of the green.
Hole #9, if you lay-up and don’t squeeze through a small opening on the right, this will be your second shot, make sure not to hit it too hard. The green slopes to the back and you’ll end up in the clubhouse, before you putt out
Another great hole is #12. Make sure you keep your drive in the center of the fairway so you can avoid the trap on the right and tree on your left on your 2nd shot. Also, try to stay below the hole because this green drastically slopes to the front.
In the distance is the green you’ll have to hit to score well on this hole. Here you are challenged to have a pinpointed 2nd shot into a small green avoiding water in front on the right and a huge oak tree on the left.
